CSO's death accidental - coroner By Charlie Crabtree Car spun: CSO James Price. A CORONER has ruled today that the death of a community support officer whose car spun on to the other side of the road during a collision in Bewdley was an accident. James Price, 27, the father of two young children, died on January 12 shortly before 9am, when his silver Fiesta collided with a Toyota Landcruiser travelling in the opposite direction in Habberley Road. During the hearing, evidence was heard from Paul Cowan, the driver of the Landcruiser, as well as expert police witnesses and a pathologist. Coroner Geraint Williams explained that ice had caused Mr Price to lose control of his car, which then spun into the opposite carriageway, causing the accident. The cause of death was "multiple injuries". Mr Williams added: "It has been brought to my attention that this young man was highly respected and much loved. "I find a tragic occurrence where no blame in any way could be attributed to either Mr Price or Mr Cowan." advertisement Mr Cowan, a warehouse operative, of Belvedere Crescent, Bewdley, explained that on the day of the accident the weather had been sunny and clear but "very frosty". He said the incident was a "sheer accident" and added the road was notorious for accidents at the spot where it had taken place. PC Timothy Tritton, a specialist collision investigator with West Mercia Constabulary, had carried out a detailed survey of the scene of the crash. He confirmed weather had contributed to the collision and that the wheels of Mr Price's car had lost their grip due to ice. He added that the accident was a "low speed collision" but this had not prevented the death. PC Graham Powell, who investigated both cars involved on behalf of West Mercia Constabulary, said: "I advise that no mechanical contribution or defect was found in either vehicle". George Kondratowicz, a consultant pathologist at Alexandra Hospital, Redditch, conducted the post mortem on Mr Price's body. He found no evidence of any "pre-existing medical disease or any medical emergency that could have contributed to the death"; He added that a blood sample had been taken from Mr Price and revealed no drugs or alcohol were present in his system. Mr Williams recorded a verdict of accidental death.
